Our Story
Juniper Ridge Psychiatry was founded by Jennifer Corteo and Jenny Tarr, two Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), who first met while working as Registered Nurses (RNs) in the Emergency Room. In that fast-paced and often overwhelming environment, they saw firsthand the challenges faced by patients with mental health concerns. While the ER is crucial for immediate medical care, it often isn’t the right place for individuals to receive the compassionate, comprehensive care they truly need. This experience inspired both Jennifer and Jenny to pursue careers in mental health, with a shared mission to serve the community and bridge the significant gaps in care they witnessed.
After leaving the ER, both Jennifer and Jenny pursued advanced degrees in psychiatry, gaining experience in a variety of clinical settings. Throughout their careers, they remained connected, united by a shared belief that mental health care should treat the whole person, not just the symptoms. They both believe that every patient deserves to feel heard, respected, and fully supported in their mental health journey.

Over time, the two nurse practitioners realized that the best way to make an impact was to open a practice that truly reflected their core values. And so, Juniper Ridge Psychiatry was born. The mission of Juniper Ridge Psychiatry is to provide compassionate, holistic care that prioritizes the individual, helping patients get the support they need before they reach a crisis point, and ensuring they always feel seen, heard, and understood.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
JENNIFER Corteo
I’m a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a passion for holistic, patient-centered care. With eight years of experience in emergency medicine and a background as a Recreation Specialist working with military personnel, I have a unique perspective on mental health and well-being. I believe in looking at the whole person, considering not only the diagnosis but also lifestyle changes, personal goals, and external factors that may impact mental health.

Before transitioning into nursing, I worked in outdoor recreation programs with soldiers returning from overseas, many of whom were dealing with mental health concerns such as PTSD. This experience deepened my interest in mental health and strengthened my desire to help individuals in meaningful ways.
In my nursing career, I’ve applied the lessons from my experience working with military personnel and in emergency medicine to focus on understanding each person’s unique needs. Whether through a clinical approach in the ER or a compassionate ear in the psychiatric office, I pride myself on providing care that is grounded in empathy and a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s story.
Approach to Care
At Juniper Ridge Psychiatry, I believe in building a true partnership with my patients. I listen carefully to their concerns, taking time to understand their unique experiences and challenges. While I am responsible for guiding treatment decisions, I believe that the most effective care is one where patients feel heard, understood, and fully involved. I craft tailored treatment plans that take into account not just the diagnosis, but also the patient’s lifestyle, values, and goals. I encourage open communication, and I seek feedback throughout the treatment process. My approach ensures that patients are not only on board with the plan but are actively participating in their care every step of the way. I take a compassionate, evidence-based approach to treatment and strive to help patients navigate their unique challenges while building healthier, more balanced lives.
Areas of Focus
I have a particular passion for working with women’s health, trauma, and conditions like PTSD, OCD, and bipolar disorder. However, I am experienced in numerous other areas of mental health as well, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and more.

A Little About Me
Originally from New York, I’ve had the opportunity to move around the country and travel the world before settling in beautiful Fort Collins, CO. Along the way, I developed a deep love for the outdoors. When I’m not working, you’ll find me mountain biking, hiking, practicing yoga, and rock climbing. Being outside helps me stay grounded and balanced, which is essential for maintaining both physical and mental well-being. I believe in the value of staying active and connected to nature, and I bring that sense of balance into my approach to care.

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
JENNY TARR
As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), I am committed to understanding each person’s unique story and providing care that respects their individual needs. With 16 years of experience as a nurse in the emergency department, I witnessed firsthand how often mental health needs go unmet in high-stress settingsThat experience inspired me to shift my focus, recognizing that real progress happens when people are given the time, space, and support to explore their challenges and strengths beyond the walls of the emergency department. In addition to my emergency nursing background, I’ve spent the past several years providing outpatient psychiatric care, where I’ve had the privilege of building lasting relationships with my patients and walking alongside them through their mental health journeys.
Approach to Care
I believe that good mental health care is more than just prescribing medication — it’s about understanding each person’s unique experiences and building genuine connections to support their well-being. I take the time to listen to my patients’ stories, helping them identify not just their challenges, but also their strengths. I’m a firm believer that treatment works best when it’s a partnership, where patients feel involved in shaping their own care. And while I take my work seriously, I also know that a little humor and lightheartedness can go a long way in making the journey feel less daunting.
Areas of Focus
I have experience working with individuals facing a wide range of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders and more.

A Little About Me
When I’m not working, I’m usually outside soaking up nature with my husband and our four kids. Whether it’s skiing, hiking, biking, or rolling out my yoga mat, I find that spending time outdoors keeps me grounded and recharged. During the summers, I also spend time working as a nurse alongside kids at a camp in Maine, which is always fun and rewarding. Life can be unpredictable, so I try to stay flexible and keep things in perspective, finding joy and laughter along the way.
